We are full of (solar) energy.
180 m2 of solar panels have been installed on the roof of our company headquarters at St. Georgen im Attergau, which annually generate 30,000 kWh of electricity. This corresponds to about half of our total consumption at the head office. We have our own car charging station for charging electric vehicles.
We have equipped our plant at Frankenmarkt with a photovoltaic system that currently covers over 13,000 m² of our building surfaces. This means a maximum energy generation of approx. 2.2 GWh per year, which corresponds to a saving of about 1,500 tons of CO2 compared to fossil fuels.
Our environmental awareness is also reflected by our 50% stake in the PV park in the Gera-Rusitz industrial estate (DE), which Carbon Renewable Energy GmbH has been operating since 2012. With 150,000 m2 of panels, the plant has an annual generation capacity of 6.5 GWh and can therefore supply about 1,500 households with green electricity.
We put the heating on.
The CO2-neutral biomass power plant, with a nominal output of 12 MW, has been in operation since November 2023 and covers 100% of the heat requirements for drying sawn timber and pellets. The biomass we use to generate energy comes entirely from our own production process.
The power lies in the water.
Together with our joint venture partner Heilig Assets GmbH, we built the pioneering Carhuac hydropower plant in Peru. The plant, which went into operation in 2018, has a planned annual output of 130 GWh and is pushing forward the use of renewable energies in the region around Lima.
As a second project, our 50% subsidiary Carbon Latin America GmbH is currently designing the Pallca power plant about 20 km upstream of the Carhuac power plant.
The small hydroelectric power plants operate without dams or impoundments and only use the natural head of the mountain landscape. Thus, they meet the country’s high environmental standards and make a valuable contribution to the energy transition in Peru.

Together with Heilig Assets NZ Limited, we are working with the CARBON Group to support governments and companies in achieving their long-term targets for climate neutrality. With the two New Zealand farms, Apley Road (since 2022) and Whangaehu (since 2023), we have achieved a total saving of 440,000 tons of CO2, which represents a significant measure for climate protection.
